For buyers seeking value and fuel economy there are five additional four-cylinder models in 4x2 and 4x4 models and all three cab styles—Regular, Access and Double. All are equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission. The 2.7-liter, four-cylinder produces 159 horsepower and 180 lb.-ft. of torque. As basic as these models are, like all Tacomas, they all come with a full complement of safety features, including stability and traction control, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake force distribution and assist. Side and side-curtain airbags and active head restraints on the front seats are also standard.

Inspired by a concept vehicle, the 2011 Tacoma adds T|X and T|X Pro packages, which are combined with the Off-Road Package and accessories from Toyota Racing Development. The two new packages are available on Tacoma V6 Access Cab or V6 Double Cab on both 4x2 PreRunner and 4x4 drive types equipped with the TRD Off-Road Package. The T|X Package includes 16-inch TRD black alloy, bead-lock wheels with off-road tires, black tube side steps, stainless steel exhaust tip and exterior graphics. T|X Pro is a performance-driven option with a TRD cat-back exhaust system, the 16-inch TRD bead-lock wheels and graphics.

Returning for 2011 is the X-Runner performance truck. Powered by the 4.0-liter, V-6, six-speed manual gearbox and featuring a specially tuned chassis, the X-Runner makes the trip from 0-to-60 mph in under seven seconds. Perhaps more impressive is the truck’s cornering grip—0.9g of lateral acceleration—comparable to many sports cars. X-Runner features an Access Cab, full body kit, hood scoop and integrated fog lamps.
